Softball Goes 3-1 During Florida Trip

The West Geauga Softball team went 3-1 during their trip to Orlando over Spring Break. After dropping the first game of the trip to Geneva (FL) 8-2, the Wolverines responded in a big way by defeating Grayslake Central 15-4 on Tuesday. Ava Borz picked up her first homerun of the season, a solo shot to center while also scoring three runs. Malory Lear drove in a pair of runs with a single. Morgan Atwara picked up two hits, including a double and drove in two runs. Lely Percassi picked up her first win of the season with five innings of work while allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out three. The two teams met again on Wednesday, this time with the Wolverines winning in walkoff fashion 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh when Borz doubled to center to score Dayana Malone. Percassi picked up the complete game win while allowing four runs on 10 hits and striking out four. West Geauga out slugged Saint Viator in the final game of the trip 21-13 on Wednesday. Malone led the Wolverines by going 4-for-5 with four runs batted in. Peyton Gambaste picked up a pair of hits and scored three runs while Sammy Paskowski drove in a pair with a hit. West Geauga also picked up a win in their scrimmage 9-4 over Riverdell. The Wolverines are scheduled to start the Ohio portion of their schedule on April 4 at Eastlake North.
