The West Geauga High School softball team won its second consecutive District Championship after rallying to defeat Edgewood 7-3 on Thursday at Ursuline College. After the Warriors took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, the Wolverines responded in the fourth inning to tie the game. Faelynn Beckrest started the rally with a double to right and came around to score on a hit by Gabby Donofrio. Malory Lear followed with a clutch single to center to score Donofrio to make it 3-2. Dayana Malone tied the game with a single to score Danica Talcott. The Wolverines took the lead on a base hit by Peyton Gambatese to cap the four-run inning. In the sixth inning, with two runners on and two outs, Morgan Atwara took a two strike pitch out to right field to put the Wolverines in front 7-3. After allowing the three runs in the first inning, Lely Percassi locked in and shut out Edgewood for the final six innings while striking out seven. West Geauga will take on Elyria Catholic on Wednesday, May 27 at Kent State University in the Regional Semi-Final.
