The West Geauga Softball team held off a late rally to knock off number one seeded Elyria Catholic on Wednesday night in the Regional Semi-Final game hosted at Kent State University. The Panthers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. The Wolverines offense answered in the top of the third inning after a leadoff walk to Gabby Donofrio. Danica Talcott doubled to right field to score Donofrio all the way from first to make it 2-1. Dayana Malone singled to center to score Talcott and Malory Lear to give the Wolverines a 3-2 lead. Talcott delivered in the clutch again in the fourth inning with a base hit back up the middle to score Donofrio to extend the lead to 4-2. It was Donofrio's turn in the sixth inning to come through with a two-out triple to score Gianna Lallitto to make it 5-2. Talcott drove in another run with a base hit to center and Lear reached on an error to plate another run and push the lead to 6-2. Malone opened the game up with a double to center to make it 8-2. Elyria Catholic added four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning before Lely Percassi got a line drive out to end the game. Percassi allowed six runs, two of which were earned while striking out seven and walking one in a complete game victory. Talcott finished 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and a pair of runs scored while Malone added a pair of hits and three runs driven in. Donofrio picked up a pair of hits and an RBI. West Geauga will play for the Regional Championship on Friday evening at 5:00pm against Mogadore Field who upset Lakeview 2-1 in 8 innings.
