West Geauga High School

The West Geauga High School football team posted consecutive shutouts to start the season after defeating NDCL on the road 7-0 Friday night. The Wolverines stopped the opening drive of the game inside the 10-yard line when Matteo DeNigris picked off Brady Capel. After a scoreless first quarter, West Geauga's Vinnie Vecchio broke an 88-yard run around the right side of the line to for the game's first score. West Geauga led 7-0 at the break. In the second half, the Wolverines defense continued to hold its ground and picked up a second interception, this time by Arthur Alt. Alt would recover a fumble on the final drive of the game for the Lions that was forced by Johnny Beclay which allowed West Geauga to run out the clock. Vecchio finished with 15 carries for 112 yards and a score on the evening. West Geauga has not started 2-0 since the 2013 season and will travel to Chagrin Falls next week for a 7pm kickoff against the Tigers.
